Preparations

Operator: Save these instructions for future use! FAILURE TO READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING OR OPERATING THIS CONTROL COULD CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock and/or equipment damage, disconnect electric power to system at main fuse or circuit breaker box until installation is complete. Use copper conductors only.

WARNING! When thermostat is set below 40°F or 5°C, damage to the building and/or contents may result due to freezing. This is possible due to factory calibration tolerances, thermostat location and operating characteristics of the heating equipment.

Selecting Location

The proper location of the room thermostat is most important to insure that it will provide a comfortable home temperature. Observe the following general rules when selecting a location:

Mount approximately 5 ft. above the floor on an inside partitioning wall.
Avoid locations close to fireplaces, cooking stoves, or other sources of heat.
Avoid locations subject to drafts, radiant heat from the sun, or to discharge air from convectors.
Avoid locations close to doors, outside walls, or poorly insulated walls.
Avoid locations close to air registers, or in the direct path of air from them.
Avoid locations near concealed pipes or chimneys.
Avoid locations close to electrical lights or appliances having a high heat output.
Avoid areas where poor air circulation exists.
Avoid areas where cooking vapors or odors are present.
Do not install in bathrooms or kitchens.
Prefer living/dining room location if no other locations are available.

Description

This Heavy Duty Line Voltage Heating-Cooling Thermostat is designed for controlling fan motors, circulator motors, contactors, motor starters, valves, etc. To provide greater room comfort, the thermostat is equipped with fixed anticipators.

Two dial stops are supplied, which may be used for making a maximum or minimum setting, a limited temperature range or a locked dial setting. (See parts package).

The temperature may be set anywhere between 36° and 90°F or 2° and 32°C by turning knob to the desired temperature on the dial.

Positive off or system selection can be obtained by using a switching sub-base. Optional heating and cooling sub-base S29-21 is available.

Installation

Disconnect power at main fuse or circuit breaker. Remove old thermostat if present, label wires. Mount the thermostat base to the wall using provided screws. Connect wires according to the wiring diagram. The thermostat may be mounted in any standard 3" x 2" or 4" x 2" electrical outlet box (deep type recommended).

Connect to fan-coil unit: Heat to W, Cool to B, Hot to R, Fan connections.

Cut field wires to reach terminals (approx. 6"); strip 1/2".
Connect load(s) per application diagram (use copper conductors).
Remove cover by grasping top/bottom and pulling out.
Install cover and set knob to desired temperature.

CAUTION! Do not push or damage the knob sensing element during installation. Avoid hitting the knob when seating stops. Once stops are installed, they cannot be removed.

Operating Features

Fixed Anticipators: For greater room comfort.
Dial Stops: Two supplied for max/min setting, limited range, or locked dial.
- MAX. DIAL SETTING STOP: Knob tab hits top of stop.
- MIN. DIAL SETTING STOP: Knob tab hits bottom of stop.
- LOCKED DIAL SETTING: Knob tab between two stops, 2nd hole.
Temperature Setting: 36° to 90°F or 2° to 32°C via knob.
Switching Sub-Base: Optional S29-21 for positive off or system selection (heating/cooling).
