The White Rodgers 1E30-W is a low voltage heating thermostat designed to provide convenient control of heating systems. It features a sensitive spiral bimetal combined with an adjustable heating anticipator for maximum room comfort. This product contains mercury. Below are the key specifications, installation, operation, and maintenance instructions.
Operator: Save these instructions for future use! FAILURE TO READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING OR OPERATING THIS CONTROL COULD CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.
If in doubt about whether your wiring is millivolt, line, or low voltage, have it inspected by a qualified heating and air conditioning contractor, electrician, or someone familiar with basic electricity and wiring.
Mercury Warning: This product contains mercury. There will not be any exposure to mercury under normal conditions of use. This product may replace a unit which contains mercury. Do not open mercury cells. If a cell becomes damaged, do not touch any spilled mercury. Wearing non-absorbent gloves, take up the spilled mercury with sand or other absorbent material and place into a container which can be sealed. If a cell becomes damaged, the unit should be discarded. Mercury must not be discarded in household trash. When this unit or the unit it is replacing is to be discarded, place in a suitable container and return to White Rodgers.
This low voltage thermostat is designed to provide convenient control of the heating system. To provide greater room comfort, the sensitive spiral bimetal is combined with an adjustable heating anticipator to provide maximum comfort.
CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock and/or equipment damage, disconnect electric power to system at main fuse or circuit breaker box until installation is complete. Label all wires prior to disconnection when servicing controls. Wiring errors can cause improper and dangerous operation.
WARNING! Do not exceed the specification ratings. All wiring must conform to local and national electrical codes and ordinances. Do not short out terminals on gas valve or primary control to test. Short or incorrect wiring will burn out heat anticipator and could cause personal injury and/or property damage. Do not use on circuits exceeding 30 volts. Higher voltage will damage control and could cause shock or fire hazard.
This control is a precision instrument, and should be handled carefully. Rough handling or distorting components could cause the control to malfunction. This control has been accurately calibrated at the factory. Any attempt to calibrate this control will void the White Rodgers warranty.
Proper location insures that the thermostat will provide a comfortable home temperature. Observe the following general rules when selecting a location:
Route the wires through the wall to the thermostat location, ensuring they are properly secured and protected. Use 18-gauge solid or 20-gauge stranded thermostat wire. Do not use larger than 18-gauge wire.
Typical Wiring Diagram
For single stage heating: Connect one wire to R (power) and one to W (heat). For millivolt systems, connect to MV terminals.
CAUTION! Do not short terminals. Handle carefully.
Set the temperature dial to desired room temperature. The thermostat will cycle the heating system to maintain the set temperature. SPST sealed mercury switch opens on rise of temperature.
Match the heat anticipator setting to the current rating of the primary control on the furnace. The anticipator setting is usually stamped on the primary control or gas valve. Set the anticipator pointer to match that rating (e.g., 0.15 to 1.2 Amps). If no rating is found, start with 0.3 Amps and adjust if needed for cycle length.
