The White Rodgers 1F57-306 is a low voltage multi-stage thermostat designed for 2-stage heat and 2-stage cool systems. It features adjustable heating anticipation for stages 1 and 2, fixed cooling anticipation, and compatibility with gas, oil, electric heat, and heat pumps. Below are the key specifications, installation, operation, and instructions.
Assemble tools: Power drill, flat blade screwdriver, wire cutter/stripper, level.
Failure to follow and read all instructions carefully before installing or operating this control could cause personal injury and/or property damage.
CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock and/or equipment damage, disconnect electrical power to the system at the main fuse or circuit breaker until installation is complete.
Before removing wires from old thermostat’s switching subbase, label each wire with the terminal designation it was removed from.
WARNING! Do not use on circuits exceeding specified voltage. Higher voltage will damage control and could cause shock or fire hazard. Thermostat installation and all components of the system shall conform to Class II circuits per the NEC code.
The proper location of the thermostat is important for accurate temperature sensing. Mount approximately 5 ft. above the floor on an inside wall, away from drafts, direct sunlight, heat sources, or dead air spaces.
Remove old thermostat: Loosen screws and remove base/subbase. Label wires.
Typical Wiring for 2-Stage Heat/2-Stage Cool
Terminals: RH, RC, W1 (Stage 1 Heat), W2 (Stage 2 Heat), Y1 (Stage 1 Cool), Y2 (Stage 2 Cool), G (Fan), B/O (Reversing Valve).
For single transformer: Jumper RH-RC. For two transformers: Separate RH and RC.
For heat pump: Jumper W1-Y1 if no aux heat; connect O or B for reversing valve.
CAUTION! Tighten terminals securely. Keep wires clear of subbase edges.
Adjustable for both stages: Set to match primary control ratings (0.15 to 1.2 Amps for Stage 1 and 2). Rotate pointer to align with amp rating stamped on gas valve or control.
If unsure, start at 0.3 Amps and adjust for desired cycle length.
Restore power. Set SYSTEM to HEAT, raise setpoint above room temp: Stage 1 should activate first, then Stage 2 if needed.
Set to COOL, lower setpoint below room temp: Stage 1 cool, then Stage 2.
Fan: AUTO cycles with system; ON runs continuously.
CAUTION: Do not operate cooling below 50°F.
| Symptom | Possible Cause | Corrective Action |
|---|---|---|
| No Heat or Cool | Blown fuse, power switch off, loose wires. | Replace fuse, turn on switch, secure wires. |
| Stage 2 Not Activating | Anticipator misadjusted, setpoint too low/high. | Adjust anticipator, raise/lower setpoint further. |
| Fan Not Running | Wiring issue, fan switch setting. | Check G terminal, set to AUTO/ON. |
| Short Cycles | Anticipator too high. | Lower anticipator setting. |
