Preparations

Assemble tools: hand or power drill with 3/16 inch drill bit (if needed), flat blade screwdriver, wire cutter/stripper, level, voltmeter. Shut off electricity at main fuse box until installation complete. Label wires before disconnecting. Select location 5 ft. above floor on inside wall, away from drafts, direct sunlight, heat sources, windows, doors, registers, poor circulation areas. For new installations, probe for obstructions, drill 3/4" hole for wires. Install 3 AA alkaline batteries before programming.

WARNING! Failure to read and follow all instructions carefully before installing or operating this control could cause personal injury and/or property damage. Save these instructions.

Description

The thermostat uses solid-state microcomputer technology to provide precise time/temperature control. Features 7-day programming with two time/temperature settings per day (occupied/unoccupied), up/down arrows for adjustment, SYSTEM switch (HEAT/EMER/OFF/COOL/AUTO), FAN switch (ON/AUTO), multi-color indicator (green 1st stage, yellow 2nd stage, red emergency). Terminals: R (hot), C (common), G (fan), O/B (changeover), Y1/Y2 (compressor stages), W1/W2 (aux heat stages). Supports multi-stage heat pump with/without aux/emergency heat, multi-stage conventional systems.

Applications: Multi-Stage Heat Pump: Yes; Heat Pump with Aux/Emergency: Yes; Multi-Stage Conventional: Yes; Single-Stage Heat/Cool: Yes; Heat Only: Yes; Cool Only: Yes; Gas/Oil/Electric/Hydronic: Yes; Millivolt: No.

Precautions

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock/equipment damage, disconnect power at main fuse/circuit breaker until installation complete. Label wires prior to disconnection. If unsure about wiring, consult qualified contractor.

WARNING! Do not use on circuits exceeding 20-30 VAC 50/60 Hz (0.01-1.5A per terminal, 2.5A max total); higher voltage damages control/causes shock/fire. Do not short terminals to test; incorrect wiring causes injury/property damage. Conform to NEC Class II circuits. Do not operate cooling below 50°F if power off >1 hour (compressor damage; allow heaters to warm oils). Lockout bypass only for technicians after 6 hours oil heaters on, 5 min off.

ATTENTION! This product does not contain mercury but may replace one that does. Do not open mercury cells; if damaged, wear non-absorbent gloves, clean up spilled mercury, place in sealed container. Refer to www.thermostat-recycle.org for disposal. Turn to OFF before battery replacement. Use alkaline only. Handle to avoid static discharge.

Specifications

Removing Old Thermostat

Shut off electricity, verify with voltmeter. Remove cover, wall plate. Label each wire with terminal designation before disconnecting. Disconnect one at a time; do not let fall into wall. Pull at least 6 inches of wire through subbase opening.

Installation

Program thermostat with battery before mounting. Pull wires through subbase center. Connect wires to terminals. Place subbase over wall hole, mark mounting holes, drill, fasten with screws (level). Push excess wire into wall, seal with fire-resistant material (e.g., fiberglass). Attach thermostat body by aligning pins and snapping into place.

Batteries: Install 3 AA alkaline (positive to + terminal); low battery flashes "BAT". Replace if continuous; program retained.

Wiring Diagrams

Terminal Designations: R (hot), C (common), G (fan), O (cool changeover), B (heat changeover), Y1 (stage 1 compressor), Y2 (stage 2 compressor), W1 (stage 1 aux heat), W2 (stage 2 aux heat).

Single Transformer Systems: R to hot, C to common, G to fan, O/B to changeover (O cool, B heat), Y1/Y2 to compressor stages, W1/W2 to aux heat.

Two Transformer (No Safety Circuits): Separate transformers; jumper commons if needed; cut/tape unused.

Two Transformer (Safety Circuits): Use accessory relay for safety; jumper commons.

CAUTION! Refer to equipment manuals for specifics. Tighten securely; keep wires clear. Both sides of transformer required at thermostat.

Check Operation

Turn on power; light standing pilot if applicable. Set option switches to manual changeover for testing. The LED indicator will glow green for first stage and yellow for second stage. EMERGENCY (heat pump only): Press to select EMER SYSTEM mode. The LED indicator will glow red for emergency mode. A flashing light indicates a malfunction in the system.

Fan Operation

  1. FAN ON: Blower operates continuously.
  2. FAN AUTO: Blower cycles with system; stops within 1 min when off.

Heating System

  1. SYSTEM HEAT.
  2. Setpoint above room: Stage 1 heat activates within few degrees.
  3. Further above: Stage 2 activates.
  4. Setpoint below: Stops.
