Preparations

Assemble tools: flat blade screwdriver, wire cutter/stripper, level. Shut off electricity at main fuse box until installation complete. Label wires before disconnecting. This subbase is for low voltage heating systems with freeze protection; not for line voltage. Install away from drafts or heat sources.

WARNING! Failure to read and follow all instructions carefully before installing or operating this control could cause personal injury and/or property damage. Save these instructions.

Description

The 37-1406-1 is a subbase for freeze protection in heating systems, featuring non-cycling manual reset. It energizes auxiliary heat below 35°F to prevent freezing. Compatible with mechanical thermostats like 1F56, 1E30. Terminals: R (hot), W (heat), Y (cool if applicable), G (fan), AUX (auxiliary for freeze).

Applications: Low Voltage Heating Systems with Freeze Protection: Gas/Oil/Electric Furnaces, Heat Pumps, Hydronic; Replaces 37-1406.

Precautions

CAUTION! To prevent electrical shock/equipment damage, disconnect power at main fuse/circuit breaker until installation complete. Label wires prior to disconnection. If in doubt about wiring, consult qualified heating/air conditioning contractor.

WARNING! Do not use on circuits exceeding 24 VAC. Conform to NEC Class II circuits. Manual reset required after activation to avoid unnoticed freeze events.

Specifications

Removing Old Thermostat

Shut off power. Remove old subbase and thermostat. Label wires before disconnecting.

Installation

Mount new subbase level on wall. Connect wires to terminals. Attach compatible thermostat to subbase. Restore power and test.

Wiring Diagrams

Terminal Designations: R (24V hot), W (heat), AUX (freeze aux heat).

Standard Wiring: R to transformer hot, W to heating relay, AUX to auxiliary heat relay (activates on freeze).

CAUTION! Ensure proper polarity and connections per system type.

Check Operation

Restore power. Simulate low temp or use test button if available.

Fan Operation

Not directly controlled; follows thermostat.

Heating System

  1. Set thermostat to heat.
  2. Normal operation via W terminal.

Emergency System

  1. Freeze event below 35°F activates AUX.
  2. Manual reset required.

Cooling System

Not applicable; heating protection only.

Operating Features

Programming

Non-programmable subbase. Operation controlled by attached thermostat.

Installer Configuration

Set anticipator on thermostat if applicable. No additional config for subbase.
